ACC approves graft charges after probe

FE Report | June 30, 2014 00:00:00

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) approved Sunday a charge-sheet against former managing director of the state-owned Essential Drugs Company Limited (EDCL) Harun Al Rashid in a case filed over his alleged accumulation of wealth worth about Tk 20 million.

The charge-sheet was approved in a regular meeting of the Commission, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told the FE.

He said the charge-sheet would be submitted to the court any day in the current week.

ACC deputy director Nasir Uddin investigated the allegation against the former EDCL MD.

On September 7, 2008, the ACC filed the case against him.

ACC sources said Mr Rashid had been MD of the EDCL from 1999 to March 2007, and accumulated the wealth illegally during the period.

The ACC investigation found that Mr Rashid had spent about Tk 11.6 million on building three houses and deposited about Tk 7.7 million with two bank accounts in the name of his wife and one son. But he had concealed the wealth in his wealth report submitted to the Commission.
