ACC asks AL MP Aslam to face grilling on March 5

The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) summoned Wednesday the ruling party Member of Parliament (MP) Aslamul Haque to face interrogation about sudden rise in his wealth in the last five years.
ACC Deputy Director Sheikh Fahiaz Alam issued a letter asking him to appear before the ACC at 10:00am on March 5, the anti-graft body officials told the reporters.  
The Commission summoned him as part of its investigation against former ministers, MPs who are accused of amassing wealth illegally.  
As per the affidavit of Aslamul Huq submitted in the 2008 general election, he and his wife Maksuda Huq owned 4.19 acres of land. The price of the land was put at Tk 2.06 million. But in the affidavit in the 10th general election held on January 5 last he stated they owned 145.67 acres of land worth Tk 19.2 million.
The commission has recently started inquiry against seven ruling party men who were ministers and lawmakers in the tenure of the immediate-past Awami League-led grand alliance government after the wealth statements they submitted to the Election Commission for contesting the national elections of January 5 which showed an unusual increase in their wealth in the past five years.
The ACC also summoned Wednesday the former BNP MP Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee to face grilling on accumulation of alleged illegal wealth. Earlier, the Commission appointed investigation officer to probe into the case. According to the decision, ACC deputy director Khandakar Khalilur Rahman will conduct the probe into the illegal wealth of Anee.
The anti-graft body has also been conducting investigation into the alleged accumulation of illegal wealth by some BNP, and Jammat-e-Islami leaders.
