ACC files case against OC Pradip, wife

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 23: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against former officer in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Police Station Pradip Kumar Das and his wife Chumki Karon on Sunday on charges of possessing illegal wealth.
Assistant Director of ACC, Chattogram district office-1, Md Reaz Uddin filed the case, ACC officials confirmed.
According to the FIR of the case, Pradip Kumar Das and his wife amassed illegal assets worth Tk 39.5 million through bribes and kickbacks. In 2018, the ACC launched an investigation against Pradip Kumar Das and his wife and asked them to submit their wealth statements.
Accordingly, they submitted the wealth statements in May 2019. During the investigation, the ACC officials found out their illegal assets.
There are allegations that Pradip Kumar Das amassed a lot of money and assets illegally while serving as an OC in Patenga, Baizid and Panchalaish police stations in Chattogram and the Teknaf Police Station in Cox's Bazar. He would extort money from people by threatening to put them in crossfire.
