ACC grills whip Atiur Rahman over graft

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) quizzed on Tuesday Atiur Rahman Atik, a whip of the 10th national parliament, over his alleged involvement in graft incidents.
An ACC team led by deputy director KM Mesbah Uddin interrogated Mr Atik, an Awami League lawmaker from Sherpur-1 constituency, from 10am to 2:00pm at the ACC headquarters, said ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee.
Earlier on April 5, ACC issued a notice to the whip to appear before the commission to clear his stance about the graft allegations.
Coming out after the interrogation, Mr Atik told the journalists that the allegations against him were made to harass him politically.
Claiming the allegations fabricated, false and imaginative, he also said he would be able to prove them wrong to the ACC.
The notice motioned charges against Mr Atik, including that the lawmaker gained wealth worth of over taka hundreds of crores through embezzling funds of Test Relief (TR) and Food for Work (Kajer Binimoye Khadyo - KABIKHA), taking money in the name of enlisting schools and colleges under Monthly Pay Order (MPO) and recruitment trade. The charges also included that the accused constructed a luxurious building at Tinani Bazar in Sherpur municipality area and established a farmhouse on a 30-acres of land in his native village
