The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) has found the proof of illegal wealth accumulation by Sohel Rana, owner of Rana Plaza, secretary of the anti-graft body Foyzur Rahman Chowdhury said Wednesday.

"After thorough investigation into the allegation which is now at final stage, the ACC team found large amount of illegal wealth of Sohel Rana," he said at the monthly press briefing of the Commission at its headquarters in the city.

In response to a query of a journalist, Mr Chowdhury said the Commission is just investigating into one part of Sohel Rana's case and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is inquiring other parts.

"According to the ACC law, we are examining the part of wealth accumulation of Sohel Rana and CID is doing the other parts. After completion of the inquiry, we (ACC and CID) will submit a joint charge- sheet on the issue," the ACC secretary said.

The inquiry is at its final stage, he said adding that "It will be submitted to the Commission very soon."

On April 24, 2013, Rana Plaza, an eight-storey commercial building, collapsed in Savar, outskirt of Dhaka city claiming 1,135 lives and injuring about 2,515 people.

Allegations have it that Rana Plaza building was constructed on a piece of grabbed land and a pond, what is believed to have been possible by use of power. Sohel Rana is now in jail.

About filing of three cases against the former housing and public works ministry secretary Dr Khondaker Showkat Hossain, Mr Chowdhury said everyone who took the residential plot illegally would come under the ACC scanner.

"We are also investigating into the cases of other government officials who have taken plots violating the rules. So, none would be spared if he/she is involved in such corruption," he said.

The ACC filed Tuesday three cases against Dr Hossain, now secretary to the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, on charge of taking government plots abusing power.

Regarding the progress on the investigation into taking job showing fake freedom fighter (FF) certificate, Mr Chowdhury said it is very important to unearth who are the real FFs and certificate holders.

The ACC secretary said the Commission received a total of 744 corruption allegations and took 111 allegations into cognisance last month (March). The ACC endorsed  filing of 37 cases against 59 individuals.

The accused persons include 34 government employees, six businessmen, one public representative and 16 others, he informed the newsmen during the briefing.
