ACC summons Khulna-2, Narsingdi-2 MPs over graft

FE Report | April 05, 2018 00:00:00

The national anti-graft watchdog on Wednesday summoned two lawmakers from Khulna-2 and Narsingdi-2 constituencies for quizzing over their alleged connection in graft.

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) issued notices to Awami League lawmaker from Khulna-2 Mohammad Mizanur Rahman and independent lawmaker from Narsingdi-2 Kamrul Ashraf Khan Poton in this regard, according to ACC sources.

ACC, through a letter signed by its deputy director Manjur Morshed, asked Mizanur Rahman to appear before the ACC headquarters in the city's Segunbagicha on April 16.

The national anti-graft body launched an investigation against the Awami League leader on March 7 to find out his alleged accumulation of wealth from illegal sources.

About the charges against Mr Rahman, ACC sources said the lawmaker has gained huge property through drug business, distributing development works of Khulna City Corporation and other government departments among relatives, and embezzling funds of government projects.

Meanwhile, in a separate letter signed by ACC deputy director Ekramur Reza, the anti-graft watchdog asked Mr Poton, also the chairman of Bangladesh Fertiliser Association (BFA), to appear at the commission's offices on April 11.

ACC received allegation that the independent lawmaker, in collusion with others, accumulated enormous illegal wealth through looting government fertiliser in the name of transporting it to the recipient farmers.

The BFA chairman who controls the transportation of government fertiliser in and around his constituency does not deliver it to the farmers; he rather sells it out secretly in the market, said ACC sources.
