The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will monitor the use of black money in electioneering by candidates ahead of the 11th parliamentary polls.
"The people don't want to see the use of black money in the polls," ACC chairman Iqbal Mahmood said.
Those who aspire to run in the electoral race should give correct information on their wealth, he added.
The ACC chief said this while exchanging views with senior journalists at the commission's headquarters in the capital's Segunbagicha area on Thursday.
"We've given a guideline to our intelligence unit to collect, for example, how many cows or goats you (candidate) slaughter during campaign or how many red posters you print..."
The ACC is informed of the use of black money in purchasing plots and flats, Mr Mahmood cited.
About candidates' affidavits, he said the ACC will collect affidavits from the Election Commission and cross-check with the documents submitted to different government departments.
Mr Mahmood said people expect that the political leaders should be angelic in nature.
At the event, ACC secretary Dr Shamsul Arefin said they have filed 5,089 cases in the past 12 years.
Charge sheets of 5,520 cases (including the cases filed by the defunct Anti-Corruption Bureau) were also submitted to the court, he mentioned.
Punishment was awarded in 1,321 cases (including the cases of the defunct bureau) in the past 10 years.
The rate of punishment was around 68 per cent in 2017, Mr Arefin disclosed.
ACC commissioner Dr Md Mozammel Haque Khan, Daily Star editor Mahfuz Anam, Kaler Kantho editor Imdadul Haq Milon, Samakal acting editor Mustafiz Shafi, Ekattor TV chief editor Mozammel Babu, DBC News editor-in-chief Manzurul Islam and Prothom Alo associate editor Abdul Qayyum, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists former president Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, among others, also spoke.
