The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) moves to probe graft allegations against two sons of former Speaker Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar for allegedly evading payment of about Tk 3.0 billion to Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Ltd (BTCL).
Officials of the ACC said Wednesday that the decision was taken in a regular meeting of the Commission on the day.
The two accused are Managing Director of Zamir Telecom firm Naufal Zamir and his brother Nawshad Zamir.
The ACC officials said the Commission took the decision after having received various 'corruption' allegations against the company and its owners.
"The Commission will look into the authenticity of the allegations and take action if the watchdog finds the accusation true," said one official.
The government has already closed the operations of Zamir Telecom in the country over alleged irregularities by the company, sources said.
Meanwhile, the Commission approved a charge-sheet against an official of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) on a charge of accumulating illegal wealth amounting to over Tk 2.3 million.
