The accords signed with India during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to Dhaka would serve mainly India's purpose, said Dr Emajuddin Ahmed on Wednesday.

"The 22 accords signed between India and Bangladesh during Narendra Modi's recent visit would serve mainly India's purpose," he said as the chief guest at a discussion on 'Indian prime minister's visit: Expectation and Achievement' at the VIP lounge of the National Press Club.

Jatiyatabadi Desh Bacho, Manush Bachao Andolon organised the programme with its president Rafiqul Islam Ripon in the chair.

The former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University said through signing the accords Bangladesh had been kept open to India.

He said that the country had achieved its Independence through the liberation war and it would not allow a single inch of its land to go to another country.

"The government did not want to see a meeting between Modi and Khaleda Zia. This is because the present government has no public supports," he said.

He also said that there was an expectation that bilateral issues would be resolved during Modi's visit, but there was no discussion on that.

President of Swadinata Forum Abu Naser Md Rahmatullah and leader of Krishok Dal Shajahan Mian, among others, were present.
