Accused criminal killed in gunfight with cops in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Apr 22 (UNB): An accused criminal was killed and seven members of law enforcers were injured on Monday in a gunfight between police and miscreants in the Kolabagicha area of Asadganj in the district town.

The deceased was identified as Wasim Parvez, an accused and top criminal, said Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station Md Mohsin.

Six cops among the injured were Assistant Sub-Inspectors Sukumar, 35, Mahbub Alam, 32, Abul Hayat Arefin, 35, and police members Jakir, 40, Shahzahan, 35, Salauddin, 40, and Ranajit.

Mohsin said police conducted a drive to arrest accused Wasim Parvez, against whom a warrant was out, and Ashik in the area while the miscreants attacked police and tried to snatch away the accused.

For self-defence police had to fire gunshots, during which Wasim sustained bullet wounds and seven police members were injured, he said.

Wasim later succumbed to his injuries after being taken to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital in the evening.
