Actress Nusraat Faria freed on bail

Actress Nusraat Faria has been released from jail on Tuesday, after getting bail in an attempted murder case linked to the July-August uprising.

Nusraat was released at 3:28 pm following a court order granting the bail, according to Kawalin Nahar, senior jail superintendent of Kashimpur Women Central Jail in Gazipur.

Earlier on the day, a Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court in the capital granted her bail after hearing a petition in this regard.

Mohammad Iftekhar Hossain, a counsel of Nusraat, said they submitted the bail petition on Tuesday.

Nusraat's lawyer argued that she was not in the country during the incident that led to the filing of an attempted murder case against her.

On Monday, another CMM court in Dhaka sent Nusraat to jail in connection with the case.

The court also fixed May 22 this year to hold a hearing for a previous bail petition.

An investigating officer was instructed to submit a report on May 22, before the court verifies the actoress's visa-related documents, submitted in support of a bail petition.

However, her arrest and rejection of the previous bail petition created a widespread controversy on the social media.

In this circumstance, the investigating officer on Tuesday submitted the report, based on which the bail petition was filed again. Nusraat Faria was detained by immigration police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on May 18, while attempting to leave for Thailand.
