Terming Awami League (AL) as a retreating political force, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan has said there is no logic behind AL’s claim to be pro liberation force.
"The leaders of Awami League crossed the border and took safe refuge in India in 1971. On August 5, the leaders of the same party also fled the country cowardly," he said.
The BNP leader came up the remarks while speaking at a discussion, marking the historic 7th November in the capital's Mirpur Shah Ali Mazar area on Friday.
He said former president Ziaur Rahman and also founder of BNP had played a key role during the country's War of Liberation and the National Revolution and Solidarity Day on 7th November 1975.
He said the historic November 7, movement during 1990 and July- August 2024 revolution are on the same page.
He said the people of the country had fought for their voting rights during 1971, but they could not cast their votes in the the last 16 years.
Convener of Dhaka north BNP Aminul Islam, party leaders Helen Jerin and SM Jahangir were present, among others.
