AL, BCL leaders held in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Nov 14 (BSS): Police in separate daylong raids on Thursday arrested three leaders of the banned Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from different areas of Rangpur district.
They were arrested in connection with cases filed over attacks, attempted murder during the anti-discrimination student movement and July Uprising, as well as sabotage and alleged anti-government activities. The detainees are Pirgachha Upazila Awami League vice-president professor Md Mizanur Rahman, BCL leader Mohammad Faisal Hasan Russell and Metropolitan BCL vice-president Asaduzzaman Raja. Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ataur Rahman confirmed the arrests.
Kotwali Police arrested Russell from his residence in the Jummapara area of the city at around 3:45 am.
