AL begins Bijoy Utsab programme

The month-long countrywide Bijoy Utsab (victory festival) programme of the Awami League (AL) began Tuesday with a fresh vow to uphold the spirit of the War of Liberation, try the war criminals and establish a hunger and poverty-free Bangladesh, reports BSS.
The festival started with placing wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at 8am in front of the Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi in the city.
AL Acting President and Deputy Leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury along with other party leaders laid wreaths at the portrait.
From there, she went to the Suhrawardy Udyan and placed wreaths at the Shikha Chirantan (Eternal Flame) at 8:30am. She also administered oath to the party leaders and activists to build Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation.
Earlier, she laid wreaths there on behalf of party President Sheikh Hasina and the party as well.
Among others, AL Presidium Members Begum Motia Chowdhury, Abdul Latif Siddiqiui and Obaidul Quader, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun were present on the occasion.
