The ruling Awami League would not be able to remain in power by resorting to repression and suppression of opponents, said BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Friday.
"You (government) won't stay in power whatever repression you unleash on us (BNP and other parties)," he said this at a rally hosted by Dhaka south BNP outside the party's Nayapaltan office.
"You won't get time to seek an apology. Whatever the level of power you are misusing, you have to pay the price one day…?" he uttered.
Claiming that the government's popularity now hits rock bottom, he said, "Voter turnout at polling centres in the first phase of upazila polls was less than that of the January 07 election."
"We want the release of Begum Khaleda Zia and others who are behind bars for their movement to restore democracy," he continued.
Criticising the comments made by Obaidul Quader, Mr Roy said, "India is helping you sustain in power."
"Bangladesh is hanging on the razor-wire fence like Felani… India won't be able to help the AL government sustain in power," he continued.
About the devaluation of taka against dollar, he said the national economy would be affected and the prices of essential commodities would rise further.
He said the present economic scenario of the country is not in a good shape and the banking sector is passing through a tough time.
