AL govt introduces neo-Baksal rule

Says Fakhrul

FE REPORT | May 18, 2024 00:00:00

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Friday that the Awami League (AL) government has introduced neo-Baksal rule in the country.

He made the comment in a statement issued on the day expressing concern over denial of bail petition of Narayanganj district BNP president Gias Uddin and sending him to jail.

"This illegal Awami League (AL) government has become more ferocious after staging the dummy election on January 7, 2024," he said.

He alleged that the ruling AL has been continuously oppressing and suppressing the political opponents just to hold on to the state power through falsehood, threats and intimidation.

Mr Fakhrul expressed deep concern over sending the opposition leaders to jail not granting them bail in 'false cases'.

"The Awami League government has introduced neo-Baksal rule in the country by giving punishment to the opposition leaders in false and fabricated cases," he continued.

Mr Fakhrul said that sending BNP leader Gias Uddin to jail by denying his bail is a continuation of the Awami League regime's oppression on the opponents. He demanded immediate release of the detained party leaders.
