Atiqul Islam, the Awami League (AL) mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), submitted his nomination paper to the Election Commission on Tuesday, report agencies.
The post fell vacant after the death of Annisul Huq in November 2017. The election is scheduled to be held on February 28.
"I will continue the unfinished works of Annisul Huq, if elected," the former BGMEA chief said, promising to work with honesty and sincerity.
He was flanked by former Bangladesh Bank governor Mohammed Farashuddin, FBCCI President Shafiul Islam, BGMEA President Siddiqur Rahman and MCCI President Barrister Nihad Kabir.
Atiqul thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for picking him as the ruling party's candidate.
The deadline for nomination paper submission will expire on Wednesday. As of Tuesday, 25 aspirants collected mayoral nominations papers. Only Atiqul has submitted his nomination paper, the returning officer said.
