Opposition BNP's top leader ASM Hannan Shah has alleged that the incumbent government was running the country in the manner of a one-party system in the guise of democracy, reports bdnews24.com.
The senior leader of the party said, "The current government is haunted by Baksal mentality. They are running the country single-handedly in the guise of democracy."
"They [the AL-run government] have thrown the people's interest into the lien and are working for the interest of their foreign masters, who had manipulated the elections to put this government into power in 2008," he added.
Hannan was speaking at a discussion at the city's National Press Club Monday.
Shikkhak Karmachari Oikya Jote organised the discussion to observe the world teachers' day.
Gen Hannan said his party would support the teachers' movement to fully nationalise their employment.
The BNP leader further exemplified the government's alleged servitude to foreign entities by pointing out the number of contracts signed with India, including the one that allows the sharing of the Chittagong port facilities.
"Even though the government denied its intention to send troops to Afghanistan, their real intention was to serve the interests of the USA," he added.
The veteran leader said, "Our leader is preparing for a movement with the people."
