Detectives in a drive arrested Awami League (AL) leader and former lawmaker Abdus Sobhan Miah Golap from the capital's Tejkunipara on Sunday, report agencies.
A DB official requesting anonymity confirmed the arrest. Golap was arrested around 2:00 pm in a case filed against him, the DB official said.
Golap was the former MP form Madaripur-3 constituency. He is Publicity and Publications Secretary of Awami League.
Meanwhile, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested former Jute and Textiles Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi from a house in Shantinagar of the capital on Saturday night.
Molla Md Khalid Hossain, officer-in-charge of Paltan thana, said Gazi went into hiding to avoid arrest. He has been taken to DB office after the arrest, he added.
Rupganj thana Inspector Jobair Hossain said, "Gazi will be shown arrested in a murder case filed on August 21 in connection with the death of a class 10 student in Rupganj."
According to the case, Roman Mia (17), son of Anwar Hossain of Chanpara in Narayanganj, was shot multiple times while attending a victory procession in the afternoon on August 5.
When taken to a local private hospital, doctors declared him dead.
On August 21, victim's aunt Rina Begum filed a case with Rupganj thana naming former bridge minister Obaidul Quader, former MP form Narayanganj-1 constituency Golam Dastgir Gazi, his son Gazi Golam Murtaza, some UP chairmen, leaders and workers of Awami League and the party's allied organisations and some 50 to 60 unidentified people.
Meanwhile, a case against former state minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam among 89 others has been lodged on charge of their alleged involvement in extortion in Rajshahi early this month.
Mukhlesur Rahman Mukul, a resident of Bagha upazila, lodged the case with Bagha thana on Sunday naming 39 people.
