BRAHMANBARIA, Jan 01 (UNB): A Brahmanbaria court placed on Sunday an Awami League (AL) leader on a one-day remand over attacks on Nasirnagar Hindu community.

Soraf Uddin, senior judicial magistrate of the Brahmanbaria court, passed the order after police produced Abdul Ahad, former joint secretary of upazila AL and former chairman of sadar union, before the court seeking a five-day remand.

Earlier, police arrested Ahad from his residence in Ghoshpara area of Nasirnagar upazila headquarter on December 27.

On October 30, some unruly people demolished 15 Hindu temples and vandalised over 100 houses in the upazila following a Facebook post that allegedly hurt the religious sentiment of the Muslim community.
