AL leader Tofail Ahmed to stand trial on graft charges

A Dhaka court has ordered charges to be framed against three individuals, including Awami League Advisory Council Member and veteran politician Tofail Ahmed, in a case over the alleged embezzlement of Tk 12.5 million two decades ago, report agencies.
Dhaka Divisional Special Judge Begum Shamima Afroz passed the order on Thursday.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Prosecutor Ishtiaq Hossain said the court has fixed June 22 for recording witness testimonies in the case.
The other accused are Mohammad Anwarul Islam and Mosharraf Hossain. Of them, Mosharraf appeared in court on bail, while arrest warrants have been issued against the remaining two as they are absconding.
ACC lawyer Ishtiaq Hossain said arguments were heard on behalf of the prosecution during the charge-framing stage.
