A senior Awami League (AL) leaders urged on Friday BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia not to talk about midterm election in the country, reports BSS.
"The state has a constitution and it is not possible to go beyond that constitution," Awami League (AL) Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr. Hassan Mahmud said speaking at a discussion meeting in the city.
The AL leader advised the BNP chief to reorganise her party first and then take preparations for polls to be held in 2019.
"The AL always comes to power with people's mandate. It never grabbed power through conspiracies," he said, adding that Ziaur Rahman came to power through conspiracy and Khaleda Zia had tried to do that, but failed.
Bangladesh Swadhinata Parishad (BSP), Narayanganj district unit, organised the discussion on 'Current Politics and Development of Country under the Leadership of Sheikh Hasina' at Segunbagicha Liberation War museum auditorium.
Presided over by Bangladesh Swadhinata Parishad Narayanganj district unit President Karim Ahmed, the meeting was also addressed by Dhaka city AL Organising Secretary Shah Alam Murad, AL Sub-Committee Assistant Secretary MA Karim, BSP Narayanganj Central President Zinnat Ali Khan and General Secretary Fazlul Haq, among others.
Hassan Mahmud rejected Khaleza Zia's allegation that the country's judiciary has no independence, saying that a recent court verdict against a minister proves that the judiciary is independent.
He said Khaleda Zia could not come out of the narrowness of her mind.
