Awami League's (AL) Liberation War Affairs secretary AB Tajul Islam Thursday urged the present caretaker government (CG) to take necessary initiatives to try the war criminals, saying it is high time to try the criminals who were against the War of Liberation.
The AL leader said this while speaking at a press conference at its Bangabandhu Avenue central office in the city Thursday, reports UNB.
"If the government takes necessary steps against the war criminals, then the AL will assist the government in this connection", he said.
About the Bangabandhu assassination, Tajul said Rashid and Faruq killed the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
"General Ziaur Rahman had good relations with Rashid and Faruq. So, he must have known about the plan of killing Bangabandhu", he said.
Replying to a query about Colonel (retd) Taher's link with the Bangabandhu killing, the AL Liberation War Affairs secretary said: "I don't know if Colonel Taher was involved with the killing of Bangabandhu."
But he added that Taher had good relations with Ziaur Rahman
