The Awami League (AL) and some other political parties, and a family of a slain national leader killed inside jail in 1975 have rejected the High Court (HC) verdict in the Jail Killing Case, report bdnews24.com/UNB.
The HC Thursday acquitted four of the 12 life convicts of the charges and two of the three death convicts in the case that involves assassination of the four national leaders of the provisional Bangladesh government at Mujibnagar in Nov 3, 1975.
Awami League acting president Zillur Rahman Thursday expressed disappointment over the HC verdict in the Dhaka Central Jail Killing case.
"The verdict will be considered as a bad example. We wanted justice. But the verdict has frustrated us very much," he told journalists at his Gulshan house.
He said the people of Bangladesh would not accept the HC verdict in the jail killing case.
Rajshahi mayor-elect Khairuzzaman Liton, son of AHM Quamrauzaman, one of the four close associates of independence leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, expressed deep resentment at the verdict.
Liton said that they would move the Supreme Court (SC).
Workers Party (WP) president Rashed Khan Menon said, "This verdict does not seem appropriate to us. It did not seem logical to me to ignore what has taken place with the knowledge of all."
"I think if justice could not be ensured in such killings the politics of killing would continue in the country."
Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) general secretary Mujahidul Islam Selim said the HC verdict did not reflect real justice.
Earlier, at a launching ceremony of a book compiled on life and politics of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at his house, Zillur asked the Election Commission (EC) to ease the conditions of registration of political parties.
He told the journalists that Sheikh Hasina will return home in September.
