Awami League (AL) leaders Saturday paid homage to four national leaders and War of Liberation heroes to mark the Jail Killing Day, reports UNB.
AL leaders, including acting president Zillur Rahman and acting general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Road 32 in Dhanmondi in the city Saturday morning.
Later, they placed wreaths on the graves of the four national leaders at the Banani Graveyard and offered special prayer, seeking eternal peace for the departed souls.
On this day in 1975, Syed Nazrul Islam, acting president of Bangladesh provisional government in 1971, Tajuddin Ahmed, prime minister, M Mansur Ali, finance minister, and AHM Quamruzzaman, minister for home affairs, were gunned down in the Dhaka Central Jail.
AL and its front organisations observe the day as 'Jail Killing Day'.
