GOALANDA (Rajbari), Mar 7 (UNB): Police arrested the son of an Awami League (AL) rebel female vice-chairman candidate in the upcoming Upazila polls from Daulatdiaghat here on Thursday night.

Police said they arrested AKM Sajjad alias Sohagh, 33, son of female vice-chairman candidate in the Goalanda upazila polls and also upazila Mohila AL president Jahanara Arju, on various charges.

A number of allegations, including assault on police, have been pending against Sohagh, also a Sramik League leader, police said.

Police arrested him following an arrest warrant issued in a case filed with Rajbari Sadar thana, said officer-in-charge of Goalandaghat thana Abul Bashar.

Meanwhile, Jahanara alleged that police arrested her son intentionally as she decided to contest the polls as an independent candidate failing to get party nomination.
