The Awami League (AL) is not thinking of any alternative means, rather the party will continue the legal battle until party chief Sheikh Hasina is freed.
"Now we are not thinking of any alternative to free our leader as we have respect for and belief in the rule of law. We are now in legal battle and will continue it until Sheikh Hasina is freed," acting president of the party Zillur Rahman told reporters in the city Thursday, reports UNB.
Replying to a query about the High Court order, he said the order has somewhat upset them, but they are not concerned about it as the case was baseless and false.
The High Court Thursday deferred by a week the hearing on AL President Sheikh Hasina's appeal for quashing the Meghnaghat power project corruption case.
A High Court Bench made the postponement after hearing a petition for time extension by Sheikh Hasina's lawyers.
Terming the cases that were filed against Sheikh Hasina as false, preplanned and baseless, Zillur Rahman urged the caretaker government to withdraw the cases and release Sheikh Hasina immediately.
"We all are united about Sheikh Hasina's release. There is no conflict among the party leaders," he said.
Meanwhile, the AL leader requested the party leaders and activists to stand beside the flood-affected people in their individual capacity and help them, saying that the overall flood situation is so worse and still deteriorating day by day.
He also requested the caretaker government to withdraw the cases filed against those who had protested the arrest of Sheikh Hasina on July 16 on court premises.
The AL acting president further urged the government to pay the wages and other financial benefits of the workers of the just closed state-owned Peoples Jute Mills at the earliest.
Among others, AL leaders Begum Motia Chowdhury, M Subid Ali Bhuiyan, Hasan Mahamud and Dipu Moni were present on the occasion.
