Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Tuesday his party is seeking public opinions to choose the mayoral candidate for the upcoming Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-election, reports BSS.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, made the comments while talking to journalists after distributing winter clothes at Dhanmondi Russel Square in the city marking the Victory Day.
Recalling the outstanding performance of late DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq, Quader said, "We have to choose someone who will be able to fill the void created in his death."
He said AL will name the candidate after the election schedule is announced.
The AL secretary bitterly criticised the role of BNP leaders and activities who took to the street and locked into clashes with police disrupting vehicular movement as BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia facing several corruption charges appeared before the court.
AL joint secretaries Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Dr Dipu Moni, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Ray Nandi, executive committee member Riajul Kabir Kawsar, among others, were present on the occasion.
