Awami League (AL) will propose some recommendations for holding a fair and acceptable election when the party meets the Election Commission (EC) on November 4 to discuss electoral reforms, reports UNB.
"We will place some realistic recommendations to the EC during our talks with the commission for holding polls fair, free from black money and acceptable to all. The recommendations will be based on 31-point reforms proposal of 14-party combine", AL presidium member Tofail Ahmed said.
The AL leader was talking to journalists after a meeting of 21-member sub-committee to review the EC's draft proposals for electoral reforms.
Tofail, convener of the sub-committee, said the AL entrusted Abul Mal Abdul Muhit with the task to prepare the draft that would be placed at the meeting with EC.
His draft will be placed at the sub-committee meeting Sunday.
They will meet professional groups to have their opinions before meeting the EC, he said.
The former lawmaker thought that the rules of registration of political parties as proposed by the EC are not practical.
This should be simplified. AL leader Abu Sayeed will make out a report on it, he said.
The adjourned meeting of the party central working committee will be held on November 1 when the recommendations to the EC will be finalized, he added.
The former minister informed that the number of members of the sub-committee had been raised to 21 from 16.
It includes Suranjit Sengupta, Motia Chowdhury, Abul Mal Abdul Muhith, Rahmat Ali, Mukul Bose, Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Abdul Mannan, Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Akhtaruzzaman, Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmed, Abdur Rahman, Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Abdul Latif Siddiqui, AKM Jahangir Hossain, Abu Sayeed, Sahara Khatun, Abdul Mannan Khan, Hasan Mahamud and Rajiuddin Raju.
