AL won\\\'t contest N\\\'ganj by-polls

The Awami League (AL) will not contest the by-polls for Narayanganj-5 constituency slated for June 26.

The seat fell vacant after the death of Jatiya Party MP Nasim Osman on April 30.

The main opposition party's Presidium member was elected uncontested in the January 5 general election.

The ruling party's decision was taken at the meeting of its Parliamentary Board at the Ganabhaban on Thursday, Office Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap told bdnews24.com.

"Awami League has decided not to contest the by-polls as it was a Jatiya Party seat," he said.

Nasim Osman was elected a lawmaker from this constituency in 1986, 1988 and 2008.
