Alomgir Kabir, 3 others sued for graft

The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) filed Thursday a case against four persons including former state minister for Housing and Public Works Alamgir Kabir in accusation of misappropriation of public funds through allocating lands.

ACC Deputy Director Jatan Kumar Roy filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station in the city, the anti-graft body officials told reporters.

The three other accused are: member of the National Housing Authority (NHA) (land and asset management) Azharul Haque, its officials Mansur Alam and Matiar Rahman.

On Tuesday last, the ACC approved the filing of a case against them over the allegation.

According to the case details, Mr Kabir and the three persons were responsible for a loss of nearly Tk 150 million in public money as they allocated plots to Dhaka Journalists' Cooperatives Limited at a nominal price.

The allocation was given violating the rules of NHA during the BNP-Jamaat rule in 2001-2006, when Mr Kabir was the state minister for Housing and Public Works, the case details further said.
