BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain has virtually shrugged off the government's assurance of full lifting of the state of emergency provided the election environment flourishes in an appropriate manner, reports UNB.
"Our main demand is to lift the emergency. Is it withdrawn? Let the government announce it over radio and television. There must be consistency between words and deeds," he told reporters at his NAM apartment as Adviser Hossain Zillur Saturday cleared the government's stance on emergency, upazila elections, level-playing field and cases in court.
Dr Zillur in a written statement at a press briefing at the Chief Adviser's office said further easing of emergency rules would take place on completion of the process of filing nomination papers.
Delwar said the adviser had earlier stated that they had reached a consensus on six points out of seven raised by BNP during the political dialogue with the government on October 23. But none of the six points was implemented.
However, the BNP secretary general reserved his detailed reaction to the government's positions on various issues, saying that he was not fully aware of what the government stated Saturday as he was out of town. "Let me hear it in detail, then I'll come up with our reaction," he told the media people.
