A group of scientists of Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) staged demonstrations on
BCSIR premises in the city on Thursday protesting an alleged move to appoint a 'fake' PhD holder to the post of its Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), reports UNB.
At one stage of the demonstrations, arranged under the banner of BCSIR Scientists Association, the agitated scientists confined the BCSIR chairman to his office for a while.
They chanted slogans and waved placards protesting the reported move to appoint council's Senior Scientific Officer (SSO) Mala Khan as the CSO.
BCSIR Scientists Association president and Principal Scientific Officer (PSO) of the council Dr Md Salim Khan alleged that Mala Khan purchased the fake PhD certificate from a private university.
"The BCSIR authorities are going to appoint Mala Khan before disposing of the dispute over her counterfeit certificate," he said.
Dr Salim also alleged that the recruitment of Mala Khan is contradictory to the BCSIR recruitment rules.
BCSIR Scientists Association secretary general Md Nurul Huda Bhuiyan alleged that Mala Khan is not eligible for the post as she has not fulfilled the minimum 14-year work experience on related field as per the circular concerned.
However, Mala Khan claimed that she applied for the post following due process and rules.
Contacted, State Minister for Science and Technology Architect Yeafesh Osman said it is the recruitment committee who will examine the certificate through discussions with the issuing institution in case any question is raised about the authenticity of the certificate.
