SYLHET, July 15: A Sylhet court granted on Wednesday 7-day remand of Moina Mia, accused in the case for torture and killing of 13-year-old Samiul Alam Rajon.
Earlier, officer in-charge (investigation) of Jalalabad police station and investigation officer of the case Alamgir Hossain prayed for his 10-day remand.
Meanwhile, Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate-II Shahedul Karim ordered for shifting the investigation of the sensational murder case to Detective Branch (DB), informed additional deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Mohammad Rahamat Ullah.
On Wednesday, state minister for women and children affairs Meher Afroz Chumki visited the house of Rajon at Sylhet city suburban village Badeali. She met his parents and handed over Tk 100,000 in assistance from the government.
Central Awami League organising secretary Misbah Uddin Siraj and lawmaker Keya Chowdhury, among others, accompanied her.
Later, she told the newsmen that the sensational case would be tried in speedy trial court.
However, local people continued their demonstrations, demanding just trial and death penalty for the killers of Rajon.
Rajon's father Sheikh Azizur was admitted at the CCU of Osmani Medical College Hospital on Tuesday after feeling chest pain. The physicians are still keeping him under constant observation.
There has been serious controversy over the police's quick filing of a case, in which sub-inspector (SI) Aminul Islam stated that 'an unidentified person had been beaten to death on July 08 after stealing a van in Kumargaon bus-stand area'.
Rajon's family and local people alleged that the biased police had filed the case in a hurry just for protecting the killers while stating the victim Rajon as a thief.
Besides, the officials had turned away Rajon's father, as he went to the police station for filing a complaint against the killers. Two police officials also berated Rajon's father as 'the father of a thief.'
However, on the following day, Rajon's father was made the case's complainant, and his statement was recorded in the police case.
In the murder case, Muhit was listed as the prime accused, while his brother expatriate Kamrul Islam and their accomplices - Ali Haider and market guard Moina Miah - were charged with killing as well.
Failing to suppress the case, Kamrul managed police through bribe and flew to Saudi Arabia, where he was caught by Bangladeshi community.
