Railways Minister Mazibul Hoque told parliament on Tuesday that 70 Ansars were deployed to prevent illegal reoccupation of two sides of the Railway tracks from Khilgaon to Mahakahli rail gate, reports UNB.
Illegal structures were evicted from two sides of the railway tracks from Khilgaon to Tongi railway bridge, he said, replying to a scripted question of Faridul Haque Khan (Jamalpur-2).
In reply to another scripted question of M Abdul Latif (Chittagong-11), the minister said Bangladesh Railways experienced a total of 1093 train accidents, including derailment of trains in five years from June 2009 to June 2014 leaving 152 people dead and 386 others injured.
The Railways suffered a loss of some Tk 165.5 million for damages to its properties caused by accidents.
Following a question from Nizam Uddin Hazari MP (Feni-2), Mazibul Hoque said the government procured 20 sets (a set comprises three units) of Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) from China at a cost of Tk 6.8659 billion in 2013.
