Commerce Minister and Awami League (AL) Advisory Council Member Tofail Ahmed said the people, who do not believe in independence, are now hatching conspiracy against the country under the leadership of BNP, reports BSS.
The commerce minister made the assertion while talking to journalists after paying homage at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Dhamondi, House-32 here to mark the 94th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Monday morning.
The people, who had opposed our independence and the war of liberation in 1971, are now hatching conspiracy against our nation, said the commerce minister. He, however, urged the people to take a fresh vow to face the conspirators.
He said BNP is now planning to initiate movement against the government after the upazila election, but they will not be successful.
Tofail said the next national elections would be held after five years through negotiations. But BNP's dream of establishing the caretaker government will never be materialised, he added.
He said the rest condemned killers of Bangabandhu will be brought back from abroad to execute the court verdict.
UNB adds: Communi-cations Minister Obaidul Quader Monday said the impressive results of the third phase of upazila elections have proved again that Awami League (AL) knows how to make a turnaround.
"This election has proved that Awami League knows how to bounce back," he told a function at AL president's Dhanmondi political office marking the 94th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The AL leader said now a ray of hope has generated among the leaders and activists of the AL. "I'm seeing this (happy mood) after the success in the third phase upazila elections."
The ruling AL fought back well in the third phase of upazila elections, outplaying its archrival BNP.
In the third phase polls in 81 upazilas, the AL-supported candidates won 37 chairman posts while the BNP favourites 27.
In the first two phases last month, the BNP loyalists put up a good show. In the 213 upazila parishads, the BNP contenders won 93, AL 81 and Jamaat 20 chairman posts.
