The anti-liberation forces who are now apparently silent are looking for further scopes to strike back, said Food Minister Quamrul Islam Saturday, reports UNB.

"The anti-liberation forces have apparently stopped their activities as part of their strategies to create instability in the country again, but they can strike back anytime," he said.

Quamrul, also the joint secretary of Awami League (AL) Dhaka city unit, said this while addressing a discussion meeting organised by Swadhinata Shikkhak Parishad at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU).

Stressing the need for unity among the pro-liberation forces to face conspiracies hatched by anti-liberation forces, Quamrul said, "We must eliminate the anti-liberation elements taking the new generation with us."

Quamrul continued, "We had fought the Liberation War in 1971. Even after 43 years of the independence, we have to continue the war against them. There's no instance in the world except Bangladesh that the fight between pro-and-anti-liberation forces is on," he added.

The AL leader said that BNP boycotted the national election but is taking part in the ongoing upazila polls resorting to lies all day long.

Krishak League vice-president MA Karim, among others, spoke at the programme held with Swadhinata Shikkhak Parishad president Abdul Mannan Chowdhury in the chair.

Meanwhile, Apparently referring to the ruling Awami League's (AL) poor results in the upazila elections, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader Saturday said they always want fair elections, no matter who wins, reports UNB.

"We wanted fair polls (Upazila elections)…and that have been done fairly. And in elections, there is a loss and win," he said.
