Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) said on Wednesday issuance of arrest warrant against the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia cannot stop the current mass movement to bring back democracy in the country.
The party in the latest statement issued by its Joint Secretary General Salah Uddin Ahmed said stopping spontaneous movement of the people at the grass-roots level through issuing such arrest warrant is an absurd planning, which is nothing but a poor thinking of the rulers.
"The BNP chairperson is prepared to sacrifice everything for the wellbeing of the country and her people. The issuance of arrest warrant cannot restrict the mass movement; rather it proves failure of the illegal government," he said in the statement.
It said democracy-loving people, including leaders and activists of the 20-party alliance, have become victims to the antagonistic politics of the ruling coalition.
It said the autocratic government has also shut down media houses one after another without any valid reason. In the latest move, the government closed down the online newspaper JustnewsBD.com.
The statement said media censorship and repression on journalists cannot protect any government from being toppled in the past and it will not work for the current government as well.
The party once again called upon the government to step down showing some sort of respect to the mass protests and help re-establish actual democratic ruling system in the country.
