A court in the city issued Wednesday warrant for arrest of 28 fugitive BNP leaders, including Barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah and Amanullah Aman, in connection with a case filed with Mirpur Police Station under the Special Powers Act, report agencies.

Dhaka Metropolitan Special Tribunal-1 Judge Mohammad Quamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order after taking the case into cognigence.

The other BNP men are-Mamun Hasan, president of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel, press secretary of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Samsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, special assistant of Khaleda Zia, Sultan Salauddin Tuku, former president of Chhatra Dal, Habibunabi Khan Sohel, president of Swechchashebak Dal, Azizul Bari Helal and Saiful Islam.

Besides, the court also asked the officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station to submit the execution report by August 26.

On January 30, miscreants hurled a petrol bomb on a bus of 'Bahan Paribahan' in front of Hakkani Mishon Biddyapith near Kallayanpur Natun Bazar Road area under Mirpur thana during the hartal-blockade programme enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance.

Another report adds: The Appellate Division (AD) of the Supreme Court (SC) refrained Wednesday from passing order on an appeal filed by the state challenging the bail given by the High Court to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in three cases lodged for committing subversive acts..

A four-member AD panel headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha "passed over" the matter as report on health condition of the BNP leader is yet to come to the court.

The AD on July 5 asked the authorities of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital to form a three-member medical board to examine the health condition of Alamgir and to submit their report by Wednesday.

Alamgir was granted bail on June 21 in these three cases lodged for inciting and instigating subversive acts and vandalising vehicles. The prosecution after that filed separate pleas against the order of the High Court.
