The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in a statement on Wednesday alleged that some detainees are being forced to make confessional statements to implicate the BNP-led 20-party alliance leaders in the ongoing acts of violence.
The statement, issued by its Joint Secretary General Salah Uddin Ahmed, said such confessional statements are being managed through inhuman torture only to infect the ongoing mass movement as part of the deep-rooted conspiracy against the alliance.
It said that a section of the media, controlled by the government, is engaged in smear campaign to malign the BNP and its allies by broadcasting such concocted news items.
"We (the alliance) once again strongly condemn such heinous plot by the illegal government. People of the country are aware of such conspiracy as they have been observing that law enforcers are staging drama of crossfire after calling the party leaders from their homes at night," the statement said.
It said the Prime Minister cannot give guarantee of indemnity to the civil administration and the law enforcement agencies verbally. So, those who are engaged in extra-judicial killings and unlawful activities to protect interest of the illegal government must shoulder the responsibility.
Mr. Salahuddin claimed that some miscreants associated with ruling Awami League are getting caught red-handed with crude bombs and illegal weapons but no action is being taken against them.
He also mentioned that anti-blockade or anti-hartal drama has also been staged by some pro-government elements and organisations and they are trying to breach security at BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office.
He said any such attempt of weakening security of Khaleda Zia would backfire to the security bulwark for the rulers.
The statement also urged leaders and activists at all levels to observe the ongoing countrywide blockade and hartals in a peaceful manner.
