State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan said on Thursday they are not still clear whether BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed is missing or picked up by anyone, reports UNB.
"It's not clear before us whether Salahuddin is missing or picked up by any one. We don't know where he has gone or is staying. We're looking into it and it'll take time," he told reporters after attending a function at Mirpur Police Staff College.
On Wednesday, Hasina Ahmed, wife of Salahuddin, and BNP claimed that plainclothes police on Tuesday night picked him up from a house in the city's Uttara area.
They fear that members of law enforcement agencies might have detained Salahuddin and taken him to some unknown place without handing him over to any police station.
Salahuddin had been issuing statements including those with hartal announcements, on behalf of the BNP-led 20-party alliance, since the arrest of another BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Meanwhile, Hasina Ahmed filed a petition with the High Court (HC) on Thursday seeking a court direction on the government to produce Salahuddin Ahmed before it within 24 hours.
