General Secretary of ruling Awami League (AL) Syed Ashraful Islam asked members of the party Saturday to refrain from doing anything that may hurt its image, reports UNB.

"Let's not do anything that tarnishes the image of the party and weaken the organisational strength," he said.

Syed Ashraful, also the LGRD Minister, was speaking at a discussion organised by AL at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) to mark the 39th martyrdom of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He said some of the negative media reports involving the party's leaders and activists were not all incorrect.

He mentioned the intra-party clash in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University and extortion by some party activists.

"Such incidents can weaken the party leader Sheikh Hasina," he said.

"But there is nothing to be worried as AL has the pragmatic leadership, thousands of devoted activists and above all the able leadership of Sheikh Hasina," he said.
