BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said the ruling party leaders and members are 'extorting money' from poor battery-run auto-rickshaw pullers, reports UNB.
The BNP leader came up the remarks while speaking at a human chain programme, organised by Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Monday, marking International Tea Day.
The leader also condemned the government's decision to restrict the movement of battery-run auto-rickshaws, stating that it deprived the most vulnerable sections of society of their means of survival.
"These auto-rickshaws have been operating for a long time, paying tolls to officials, and local members of the Jubo League and Chhatra League." the BNP leader said.
Rizvi also said the government is unethically inflicting torture and injustice on the impoverished pullers of the battery-operated auto-rickshaws.
Referring to Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, he said the battery-powered auto-rickshaws must have been imported from some country.
