FE Report
Expressing deep concern over the ongoing political violence Sushahsoner Jonno Procharavijan (SUPRO) called upon all the political parties on Friday to avoid such political programmes that create scope for violence, destructive activities and conflict.
SUPRO made the call at a human chain formed in front of National Press Club in the city with the slogan 'No Conflict and Violence: We Want Peace, Security, Democratic Environment and Right to a Normal Life'.
In the human chain SUPRO leaders said people of the country are very much shocked and hurt with the continuous dispute and brutality since January 4. They have been passing a life of fear, frustration and insecurity due to the ongoing activities. Especially the children and youths have been growing up with a wrong sense towards democratic norms and practices which is unexpected.
SUPRO highlighted the data of casualties and damage across the country that took place during the violence. A total of 36 people were killed (of them 17 died because of petrol bomb and arson, 10 during clash and nine in other incidents).
A total of 764 vehicles and five railway tracks were set ablaze and vandalised. Thousands of people have been fighting to survive with their burn injuries who were attacked by petrol bomb or fire.
SUPRO leaders also called upon the political parties to remove all mistrust and increase tolerance to others by taking initiatives for holding dialogue.
In the human chain SUPRO and representatives of like-minded organisations spoke, among others.
The position paper was presented by SUPRO Campaign Coordinator Sakera Nahar with associate coordinator of SUPRO Tax Campaign Department Ariful Islam moderating the human chain.
