Awami oligarchs are looting the market, alleges Rizvi

The essentials market has been left in the control of syndicates so that they can provide the ruling party leaders with their election expenses, BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Monday.
"Awami oligarchs are looting the market," he said, adding that the government has no idea about commodity prices.
The commoners are helpless with the rise of commodity prices, including onion, whereas the government has no intention to look into this, he said.
The BNP senior joint secretary general, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, came up with the remarks at a virtual press conference on Monday.
He alleged that the traders are fixing the prices of their own free will.
"They (the government) would not have left control of the market in the hands of party traders if people's vote was required for them," he said.
Criticising the government, he said the ruling party is now in a fix for distribution of the constituencies among their partners.
The ruling party and their allies are talking about a participatory election; however, in reality, they are compromising.
Raising concern over law enforcers' crackdown on BNP men, he said at least five people died in December.
Prisons across the country are over-occupied with an increased number of inmates than that of their capacity. BNP leaders-activists are being detained without receiving necessary healthcare treatment so that they die, paving the way to the political arena having no opposition forces.
