Azad moves SC to cancel candidacy of AL's Shamim

AK Azad, an independent candidate from Faridpur-03 constituency, has appealed to the Supreme Court, seeking cancellation of the candidature of the Awami League-nominated Shamim Haque.

To this end, he filed a petition with the Appellate Division of the apex court on Thursday.

Earlier, the chamber judge allowed Mr Shamim to contest the January 07 general election.

Mr Azad petitioned the Appellate Division, saying Mr Shamim did not revoked his Danish citizenship until November 30, the last day for filing nomination papers, and therefore he could not be allowed to run for election.
