Former President and Bikalpadhara Bangladesh chief Prof Badruddoza Chowdhury Thursday alleged a section of ruling party lawmakers and police officers were persecuting opposition activists endangering the government popularity, reports BSS.
"These MPs and 'darogas' (junior police officers) are causing disasters for the government everyday," he said, while speaking at a rally staged at the party office.
Bikalpadhara Bangladesh arranged the rally with a view to protesting against the alleged persecution of party leader Laxman Chandra Mandal.
Mr Chowdhury urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to follow the recent developments in US politics, exposing President Obama to a setback despite his vast popularity.
"I don't think you have anything to learn from the consequence of the past BNP-led four-party alliance government, rather urge you to see results of the midterm US senate elections," Chowdhury said.
He said both Obama and Hasina came to power promising 'changes' in systems and said she must expedite the process of implementing the promises to retain the popularity.
Senior party leaders including former lawmaker Mahi B Chowdhury also attended the rally.
