Former state minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar was shown arrested in a graft case Monday, reports UNB.
The case earlier filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) said Babar had taken Tk 210 million (21 crore) in bribe from Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, chairman of Bashundhara Group, in exchange of relieving him and his son from the charge of murder of Sabbir and destroying physical evidence of the murder.
The ACC investigation officer prayed to the court for showing Babar arrested in the graft case for the sake of inquiry. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Golam Rabbani admitted the petition.
Babar has been convicted and sentenced to 17 years in jail for possessing illegal arms and ammunition.
He faces more than half a dozen other criminal and corruption cases.
Known as Young Turk in BNP, Babar was close to Hawa Bhaban and its supremo Tarique Rahman that had allegedly run parallel administration during the BNP-Jamaat regime.
