Sahara Home Minister Sahara Khatun on Sunday blamed BNP-Jama'at men for Sunday's violence in the city's Motijheel area and termed it preplanned. She alleged that cadres of BNP-Jama'at led the incidents and questioned opposition leader Khaleda Zia why they did it. "You (Khaleda) should not have given such directives to your leaders and activists. What type of mentality is this? You've a responsibility as the opposition leader," she said while talking to reporters at her Secretariat office. Her comments came after a series of cocktail blasts at different points in the capital in the morning, leaving a man killed and another injured as police prevented Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal activists from attending a reception scheduled to be held at the Engineers' Institution. The Home Minister alleged that the opposition was trying to create an anarchic situation to impede the trial of war criminals. Hanif bdnews24.com reports the ruling AL has blamed the opposition party for executing 'pre-planned' bomb explosions and arson attacks in Dhaka and Sylhet. "The BNP-Jama'at alliance has executed a well-planned attack to destabilise the country," party joint general secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif told a press briefing on Sunday at party chief's political office at Dhanmondi. "The attacks were made just to foil the trial of war criminals and to protect the sons of Khaleda Zia," he said. Fakhrul UNB adds: Opposition BNP on Sunday alleged that the police provoked by the PM's recent statement attacked its activists in the morning to foil Khaleda Zia's reception to FFs. The party claimed that Arifuzzaman killed in the city's Motijheel area in the morning was its activist. Addressing a hurriedly called press conference at National Press Club at 1:10 pm, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said police and RAB members made the 'severe' attack on peaceful gatherings of BNP to foil its reception to freedom fighters on the premises of Engineers' Institution. He alleged that Arifuzzman was killed by bullets triggered by police in Motijheel area.
