CHITTAGONG, July 25 (UNB): The bail petition of detained former Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) lawmaker Sarwar Jamal Nizam was rejected by a court here Wednesday.
After hearing, Metropolitan Sessions Judge AKM Anwar Hossain turned down the bail petition of Nizam, now in Chittagong jail on a one-month detention given by the CMM Court.
Joint forces arrested Nizam from the Chittagong Club gate on June 22 with three bottles of foreign liquor and five cans of beer.
The police said there are specific allegations that the former BNP lawmaker was involved in 10-truck arms smuggling case, abduction and killing of business tycoon Jamal Uddin and unloading of smuggled goods in coastal areas.
